Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation
ABOUT THE MASHANTUCKET PEQUOT TRIBAL NATION
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is a federally recognized Native American Indian tribe located at one of America’s oldest reservations, Mashantucket, in Southeastern Connecticut. As pioneers of the Indian casino gaming industry, the Mashantucket Pequots’ history reveals one of America’s greatest come-back stories, featured at the Tribe’s world-renowned Mashantucket Pequot Museum. Today, the Tribe owns and operates one of the largest and most celebrated gaming resort destinations in North America, Foxwoods Resort Casino, along with a variety of complementary businesses including a world-class golf course, a luxury spa, and Pequot Health Care (PHC). As one of the State’s highest revenue contributors and largest employers, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has provided more than $4 billion dollars to Connecticut in slot revenue payments through a first-of-its-kind agreement, established in 1993. Likewise, the Tribe has contributed hundreds of millions in donations and sponsorships to benefit worthy charities, families, communities and tribes in need, locally and throughout the U.S.
TRIBAL SEAL/SYMBOL
The tribal symbol is both a reflection of the Mashantucket Pequot' past and a symbol of hope for the future. Framed against the sky, the lone tree on a knoll represents Mashantucket, the "much wooded land" where the Pequots hunted and kept alive their identity as an independent people. Displayed on the knoll is the sign of Robin Cassacinamon, the Pequot’s first leader following the 1637 massacre at Mystic Fort. The fox stands as a reminder that the Pequots are known as "The Fox People."
