“Our hospitals, colleagues and communities have suffered greatly from this virus. This tremendous partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation will be instrumental in vaccinating the population in Eastern Connecticut,” said Donna Hadley, senior vice president at Hartford HealthCare and president of Backus and Windham Hospitals. “We are fortunate to join forces with one of our most influential community partners to improve the health and healing of the communities we serve.”
Hours will be Tuesday-Wednesday from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Thursday-Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The site will be located in the Rainmaker Valet Lobby and Rainmaker Casino Level, with free parking available in the Rainmaker Garage.
“Mass vaccination sites play a crucial role in ensuring vaccines are distributed rapidly and effectively,” said Rodney Butler, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman. “We’re honored to help serve and support the resilient people of Connecticut by helping Hartford HealthCare and the state expedite vaccine administration so we can get closer to putting this pandemic behind us.”
“Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, both the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods Resort Casino have worked tirelessly to help control and dissipate the virus in Connecticut,” said Jason Guyot, Interim CEO and SVP Resort Operations. “We’re grateful for the ability to help get Connecticut residents safely vaccinated as quickly as possible and are proud to work with Hartford HealthCare to keep our communities safe and healthy.”
The site at Foxwoods currently has capacity for 600 vaccinations per day, ramping up to 1,000 per day over time – with a goal of administering over 1 million vaccines by July. Additional appointments will be added on a rolling basis as more vaccines become available, in accordance with state eligibility guidance. The site will be in accordance with COVID-19 safety measures, including social distancing protocols and mandatory face masks.
“Hartford HealthCare has a great team, and a big footprint here in southeastern Connecticut with their outstanding staff at Backus Hospital,” said State Rep. Joseph Courtney. “They’ve worked on the front lines of this pandemic to help keep our communities safe, and their new partnership with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to ramp up vaccination efforts in eastern Connecticut is a tremendous win that will benefit our entire region. Foxwoods has the capacity to operate a massively scaled-up vaccination effort, and the experience to do so efficiently, quickly, and safely, especially in partnering with Hartford HealthCare. I’m grateful for their commitment to helping our communities through this pandemic, and for Hartford HealthCare’s continued service to our region.”
The site will administer the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. For updates on the state’s phased rollout, please visit ct.gov/covidvaccine. For more information about Hartford HealthCare vaccination efforts, visit hartfordhealthcare.org/vaccine.
