MASHANTUCKET, CT (September 15, 2020) – Foxwoods® Resort Casino is reporting slot revenue of $29.6 million for the month of August 2020. This results in a $7.4 million direct payment to the State of Connecticut in accordance with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s long-standing slot revenue contribution agreement.
The resort continues to see positive feedback and adherence from guests and team members on its extensive safety measures, including temperature checks, mandatory face masks, plexiglass installations and 24/7 sanitization of the property. Most recently, in a continued effort to offer the safest resort experience possible, Foxwoods teamed up with Otis – the world’s leading company for elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation and service – to pilot their innovative new touchless elevator experience, making Foxwoods one of the only casinos in the US to offer guests the ability to use their voice or hand gestures to control onsite elevators.
Additionally, after thorough safety reviews with its Chief Medical Officer and other health experts, the resort announced in August it could safely reopen the Bingo Hall, High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Sports Lounge, Caputo Trattoria and the Fox Tower Hotel. Foxwoods was also nominated by USA Today as one of the best casinos outside of Las Vegas as part of their 10Best Readers Choice Awards 2020.
“Our number one priority continues to be providing a safe, welcoming environment where all guests can stay, shop, game, and dine,” said Jason Guyot, Interim CEO and SVP of Resort Operations. “We’ve been very pleased to see positive guest response and compliance with the numerous safety measures we’ve put in place since reopening on June 1, and we are continuing to evaluate the next phases of our reopening process so we can offer our guests more of the Foxwoods they’ve come to know and love.”
“As other authorized states around the region continue to generate tax revenue from sports betting and online gaming, Connecticut risks falling behind if we don’t reconsider these options that could together generate $123 million for the state within five years,” said Tribal Chairman Rodney Butler. “Our Tribe has been actively contributing to the great state of Connecticut for more than two decades and is ready to help continue rebuilding the local economy in these difficult times.”
Since 1993, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has deposited over $4 billion of Foxwoods’ slot revenue directly into the state’s budget fund. Combined with payments from the Mohegan Tribe, the total number in gaming payments is closer to $9 billion.
